Give the gift of warmth this winter!

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s annual Winter Warm-Up is a community-based effort to provide new coats, hats, and gloves to kids in need.

Registration

Registration will open November 21, 2022, for children ages 3 months – 18 years old.

There is a limit of 5 coats per household/family.

You must be registered to participate!

Coat Distribution

Distribution will take place on December 17, 2022, from 10:00 A.M. to 12 P.M., at the MLK, Jr. Community Center, located at 2922 MLK, Jr. Blvd, Dallas, TX 75215. This will be a drive-through event.

We are accepting donations of new coats, hats, and gloves until December 9, 2022.

Items can be delivered to the MLK, Jr. Community Center Administration Building.

Volunteer

Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals and groups to help sort coats and additional items, and to distribute items on the day of the event.

2023 “Taste of Soul” Soul Food Cook-Off @ MLK, Jr. Recreation Center

About

Bring your family to the “Taste of Soul” at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center on Saturday, February 25, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., for a soul food cook-off highlighting local chefs and businesses and celebrating the diversity of soul food cuisine.

The Taste of Soul will also feature raffles and prizes, a fun photo booth, and live entertainment for all to enjoy.

Come out and cast your vote for the best dish!

Admission

Admission is FREE. Donations will be accepted at the door:

  • $2 for adults
  • $1 for seniors
  • Children may enter for free

Enter the Contest

Enter your best soul food dish for a chance to win the Grand Prize at a “Taste of Soul” on February 25, at the MLK, Jr. Recreation Center.

Guests will sample your dish and judges will vote on the best dish in each category.

Categories include: Meat, Sides, Vegan/Vegetarian, & Desserts.

Prizes

Cash prizes are available for contest winners! 

The Grand Prize winner will receive $750.

1st place winners in each category will win $500. 

Additional awards will be given to all contest participants.

Contestant Registration

You must register to enter the contest! Online registration will begin January 18. Contestants will be selected on a first-come, first-served basis, or until all categories are filled.
