About Us

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s  social services program provides financial assistance to families in the form of food, utility, & rental assistance through programs administered under the City of Dallas. The Center also hosts community and cultural events throughout the year with the sole purpose of giving back to the community.

The Core Administration building is home to the MLK Social Services department, Community Courts, City of Dallas Housing & Community Services, Dallas 311, and other service organizations.

The Foremost Family Health Center provides a wide range of medical, dental, behavioral health and specialty health services to Dallas-Ft. Worth families. 

The MLK Branch Library is a resource to the community by providing access to public computers, homework help for students, educational opportunities, and an outstanding African-American History collection.

MLK ChildCareGroup is a child development center that provides high-quality services that address the developmental needs of children while their parents work, attend school or training. 

The MLK Recreation Center offers a gymnasium, fitness center, event and meeting space, and it is home to the Active Seniors and Adults program (ASAP) for senior citizens.

History Highlights

  • In February 1969,  the Crossroads Community Center was established, providing an interim program of administration, client intake and referral, medical and health care, Attach46184_20160706_155450employment and welfare assistance, community organization, neighborhood and housing improvement, and daycare for children.
  • ​In January 1975, the Center was renamed The Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
  • ​On July 3, 1976, a 7-foot bronze statue of Dr. King was unveiled by Martin Luther King, Sr. in front of a crowd of more than 6000 people.
  • ​In January 1982, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center established the first Annual Awards Banquet and parade.
  • In January 2017, the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center hosted its first-ever televised MLK Day Parade, becoming the largest celebration in North Texas.
