11:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center’s Board and staff would like to invite you to participate in this year’s Annual Back to School Festival on Friday, August 17, 2018, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM, at the MLK, Jr. Community Center, located at 2922 MLK Boulevard.
We believe that every child should begin the school year with the essential items needed to boost confidence, pride, and self-esteem. We are targeting elementary, middle, and high school students in economically disadvantaged families who need assistance with obtaining school supplies. In the past, we have donated backpacks and school supplies to more than 2,500 families.
This year we want to supersede that number by providing not only backpacks and school supplies, but also school uniforms to 3,500 families. Students will have access to free haircuts and hairstyles, health information from local agencies, and medical screenings and immunizations provided by the Foremost Family Health Center (with insurance). There will also be free snow cones and snacks provided and fun activities for children.
We are currently accepting donations of the following items:
School supplies for all grades (K-12)
T-shirts & Underwear (for boys and girls)
You can also make a monetary donation towards the purchase of items.
Be a Vendor
We invite you to share in our commitment to making Dallas a City that appreciates and values education by supporting the Annual Back to School Festival. There is no fee associated with being a vendor, but vendors are required to provide school supplies to give away to an estimated 3,500 families. Items must reflect 2018-2019 DISD school supply lists.
If you have any questions about the Back to School Festival, please contact a staff member at 214-670-8418 or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
