Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Week

In January 2025, the City of Dallas will host its 43rd annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a weeks’ worth of events highlighting issues of equity, diversity, and opportunity.

The week will include a Day of Reflection, Prayer, & Dedication, Job Fair, Equity Symposium, Youth Summit, and Scholarship & Awards Gala. Celebration week will culminate with the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade.

Day of Reflection, Prayer, & Dedication

The City of Dallas unites in sending prayers for the safety and well-being of our city, facilitated by faith leaders. We also commemorate the life of Dr. King by laying wreaths, symbolizing our unwavering dedication to his cause of a more just society.

Job Fair

An in-person job fair held at the Hall of State at Fair Park in partnership with Workforce Solutions of Greater Dallas featuring on-site interviews and job offers from 50 employers.

Equity Indicators Symposium

The City of Dallas Annual Equity Indicators Symposium brings national, state, and local leaders together to discuss the Racial Equity Plan implementation, updated equity indicators, housing policy, and equity frameworks.

Alpha Phi Alpha Candle Lighting Ceremony

The Alpha Sigma Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center collaborate to commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. King with a special candle lighting ceremony.

MLK Fest

A community clean-up of the MLK corridor in partnership with South Side Quarter Development Co., Walls Project, Epiphany, Zeal, New Era, and the City of Dallas.

The MLK Scholarship and Awards Gala

The Gala, renamed in 2019 to the MLK Scholarship & Awards Gala, is a longstanding event of the celebration and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Our goal for the Scholarship & Awards Gala is to support the educational aspirations of City of Dallas youth through scholarships and to recognize City of Dallas residents that have made invaluable contributions to their communities reflecting the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLK, Jr. Day Parade
 
The annual MLK Day Parade features approximately 250 entries from various community organizations, church groups, youth groups, nonprofit organizations, band/drill teams, colorful floats, and much more. 

Donate

Funding donated to this page will support the annual celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with more than a weeks’ worth of events focused on equity, diversity, and opportunity. Donated funds will enable the City to provide the week’s events to the public free of charge, except for the Scholarship Gala, which requires a ticket purchase.

Beyond providing support to the events of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Week, donations will also support the development of the City of Dallas’ new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be presented at the 43rd annual gala event.
