In January 2024, the City of Dallas will host its 42nd annual celebration of the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a weeks’ worth of events highlighting issues of equity, diversity, and opportunity. The week will include a Day of Prayer, a Day of Service, a Wreath Laying Ceremony, Job Fair, Equity Symposium, Youth Summit, and Scholarship & Awards Gala. Celebration week will culminate with the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Parade.

2024 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Essay Contest
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest will award eight scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 (per award) to graduating high school seniors accepted into a college-level educational institution (two-year college, four-year college, or trade school).
The contest is open to high school seniors attending a City of Dallas high school. These Scholarships are to help defray the cost of tuition, books, room and board, and other expenses.
The scholarship will open in November 2024.

Funding donated to this page will support the annual celebration of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with more than a weeks’ worth of events focused on equity, diversity, and opportunity. Donated funds will enable the City to provide the week’s events to the public free of charge, except for the Scholarship Gala, which requires a ticket purchase.
Beyond providing support to the events of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Week, donations will also support the development of the City of Dallas’ new Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Scholarship Fund. Scholarships will be presented at the 42nd annual gala event.
