  1. On behalf of myself and hundreds of thousands of African Americans across this state would like to take this opportunity to ask the Distinguished Committee of the Dallas MLK Jr. Parade & Awards Committee to consider honoring the first African American to become Balch Springs Mayor and the former Police Chief of Wilmer Hutchins Scools. The Hon. Cedric Davis Sr. continues to provide outstanding mentoring for young African American men and women around this this state. His outstanding journey from the Dallas Projects to his military services, political and civic leadership, community activism, giving back to our communities and the less fortunate is truly an inspiring story. He is a living representative of the dream Dr. King invisioned. Many African Americans in this state know him as the African American who almost became Texas first African American Governor. This former mayor still continues to illustrate his love of our community by still getting out on the frontlines to protest injustices against our people. This outstanding servant has many accolades but we think a recognition from his childhood hero would speak volumes. In times like these, this man has been a great example of quality black leadership that values community. Research him, I think you find him a worthy recipient based on life works. Check him out: Facebook > Mayor Cedric Davis Sr.
